Halloween Peanut Butter Spiders!

Fall is in the air, it is cooler and the leaves are starting to change color. And Fall always makes me think of Halloween. One of my favorite holidays. I love getting dressed up! I also love red apples and orange pumpkins. I also love to bake cookies. For Halloween, I love to make my Peanut Butter Spider Cookies!

They are so much fun to make and eat!

When I bake, I think about the magic of cooking, and for Halloween, it is a spooky magic…Okay, not really ; but it is fun to say.

The magic in this recipe is making the cookies look like spiders.

The other magic is the fun of getting dressed up in a costume to bake! Yes, I put my apron on to keep clean but I do love to dress up as a fun witch and Dazzle the dragon likes to wear a sparkly hat.

Recipe

½ cup butter (softened)

½ cup peanut butter

¾ cup brown sugar

½ cup granulated sugar

1 large egg (room temp)

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 ¼ cups flour

½ teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon baking powder

½ cup granulated sugar for rolling

peanut butter cup mini candies

  • Preheat oven to 350

  • Cream together peanut butter, butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar.

  • add egg and vanilla,

  • In a separate bowl, blend baking powder, soda , salt and flour.

  • Stir in flour mixture.

  • Form into 1 inch balls and roll in sugar

  • On parchment paper baking sheet, press down balls with a fork.

  • Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

When out of the oven press peanut butter candy into center.

The cookies and candy need to cool before decorating.

I love to use this time to color. Dazzle and I draw the shapes and colors of Halloween. There are some fun pictures to color you can print for free while we wait for the cookies to cool.

Using butter and powdered sugar, I make a small batch of frosting. I keep one half vanilla, and the other half I add cocoa to make chocolate.

I use the vanilla to make the eyes of the spider and the chocolate to make 8 legs, 4 on each side.
